Isaiah VanceSocial media has become the new norm of digitally communicating with people worldwide. Some companies even believe it has a negative impact on its employees and installed polices in regarding social media. A few of those companies that have a social media policy are more so positively influencing social media use. Companies like adidas, and gap have social media policies for their employees, but both companies take a different approach with their employees on their guidelines on social media. Adidas Approach to Explaining the Company Social Media Policy:
GAP Approach to Explaining the Company Social Media Policy:
Both of these companies are clothing apparel companies with two similar but yet different approaches to their employees to address the social media policies. Adidas took the more fun environment approach with their social media policies. Allowing their employees to use social media to help promote the brand maybe even find some ideas that’s hanging around out in the social media world. Adidas is more so inviting their employees to use social media, but also make sure their point is clear with not sharing any legal documents and making sure their employees don’t disgrace the overall brand of adidas. Whereas GAP took the more so military general approach or parent talking to a disobedient teenager. I would have to say their approach may not sit too well with many employees. Also GAP may not be as huge as adidas and could very well so be on a decline in fact, and maybe that’s why they use that tactic. So they could’ve used this method as a wake up call for themselves and employees to not jeopardize the company in anyway that would gain a lot of attention from the media or even trend on social media for something an employee said. Benefits of Employees Using Social Media In the Workplace Social media is often seen as a disgrace or unprofessional in the workplace. Mainly it has to do with the uneducated generational gap between the companies administration and the people they hire. But what they fail to understand is the positives that social media in the workplace can influence employees morality. Employees using social media in the workplace benefit from taking a mental break. Working for various amount of hours a day and days a week, employees suffer from mental stress that comes with the job. Some employees find being on social media an escape from reality for a brief moment. With that brief moment of escaping reality it provides the employee with a mental recharge or a reset button much similar to the good ole college power naps or hard days of work. Sometimes seeing other people’s lives fall apart makes us feel like our life isn’t too bad after all. Another benefit from using social media while at work is; it builds a better relationship between employees. Employees most of the time interact during work in a more professional setting, social media allows them to conversate in a more informal setting where they maybe be more themselves over social media than In person. It also allows them to seek advice or even ideas from other colleagues across the world. Social media at work creates a global communication environment that employees can take advantage of it to help them seek, ideas, connections, motivation, and better relationships. People often have a bad interaction with social media at work due to the distractions it can cause to the employee. However there is a lot of morality boosters involved in using social media at work that can help companies retain retention in the company. At the end of the day social media is growing inside of companies, in fact digital media itself is growing worldwide. Companies can often times get caught in doing the same old tactics it can end up hurting their retention. Not all social media is bad social media as Adidas found a way to make working with them fun and flexible, other companies who maybe on the end of decline may not want to get caught up in all the backlash from social media.

Bryce RischWhat do you have on your website? Listings of your products? Details of the services you provide? Maybe a well put together “About Us” section? This is no longer enough for the modern website. The vast ocean that is the world wide web, contains countless websites that serve a similar purpose as yours. If your website does not fulfill the customer’s needs, they will move on. But what are the customer’s needs beyond the product, service, or information of the company? Information. When you are searching for something what is the usual go to? Googling it. If I want to buy a car, I won’t just find the first dealership in my area and buy the first car I see. It’s a process. I will research until I’m satisfied, I found a deal and I know what I’m buying. Maybe that is an extreme situation. I don’t buy a car on a daily basis, but the consumer buying process holds true. People will research and evaluate their alternative options. Where does your website come into all of this? The research portion and how it relates to Content Marketing. Read on and learn the basics of this concept, the value it can bring to your company, and how to incorporate content marketing into your business. What is Content Marketing? When we break content marketing down to its basic definition, it can be easily defined as just content. Yes, I remember that elementary rule of not using the word in its definition, but concept is to produce content that is relevant to the customer base. Each industry and business may have a different approach to this. What is on brand for your company? What do you want to be the voice of your business? Content marketing takes the form of social media posts, blogs, videos. For the sake of simplicity, we are only gonna focus on what to do with your website. Since your website is the face of your online presence, it’s best to drive people to your website to become informed of what you do. Going back to the car buying example. Maybe I want to buy a truck, and never owning one before, I need to research what to look for in a truck. So, I Google it and see what I can find. I don’t want to read an ad that is just trying to sell me their truck. This is plainly because people don’t like to be sold what their looking for. Let the customer come to your product or service on their own. This is where content marketing comes in. Produce the content they are looking for. If I’m looking for a truck, and want to learn about towing capacity, have a webpage or blog devoted to informing the customer on the subject. Maybe you sell a product that is more intangible; like a service. An accounting business could produce content that teaches the customer about basic finances. So, what is content marketing? Information that is relevant and useful to the customer that can aide in making a sale. But watch out. It is not about you pushing your product or service. What are the benefits? Now that we know the basic definition of what content marketing is, let’s go over what it can do for your business. You have the ability to come off as an industry leader. You’re not just producing a product or service; you are providing information that can be valuable to all who come across it. Bob Ruffalo, CEO of IMPACT, a marketing agency, explains that content marketing can build a trusting relationship with customers because they are able to go to your website, find what they’re looking for without any pressure of being sold something. This improvement of brand image can help set you apart from companies that only push their product on their customers. Come from the point of view of wanting to inform. Not sell. Forbes explains in “5 Business Goals of Content Marketing” that a good strategy will produce more traffic and click through rates. The benefit of having more purposeful content is simple, If I Google something to learn more about a product and one of the first links is your website, I will probably click on it. No one searches the back log that is page ten of a google search. If it doesn’t show up on the first couple of pages, it must not be useful. Increasing your traffic through relevant and purposeful information will set you apart as a company that cares so much about what you do, you are willing to educate customers so they can make a more informed decision. If I keep going to your website to learn about the product/service, I will form an opinion of your company, and this will form me into a brand loyal customer. How do you apply this to your business? If this is different for every business/industry how do I know where to start? The concept of content marketing can be daunting if you’re just starting out but take things slow. Develop a strategy. You are the experts in your field. Define a goal and purpose to your strategy. What type of content do you think your customer wants? If you sell a complicated product or service, strategize around creating content that simplifies the product/service. Do you sell products that help align with certain lifestyles? Bespoke Post, an online business that specializes in selling products for men, has a part of their website dedicated to articles that teach how to do things that may relate to their products. Looking to buy kitchenware I can also find an article that walks me though cooking the perfect steak. This company has decided to use content marketing in the form of blogging. They offer interesting, relevant, and purposeful content. At the end of reading through how to make a proper old fashion, I can seamlessly transition into looking at the mixology kit that is listed under their barware section. Bespoke Post decided on a strategy of producing content related to the lifestyle they promote and then pushed out articles their customer base would want to read in a number of categories that align with the brand. Find your purpose and goal, then figure out what your customers would find relevant. Once this is determined, you can then iron out the details of who in your organization are experts and then challenge them to write a meaningful post. Don’t just make random noise. Strategize key areas of your industry that will lead to the most purposeful content. If I’m buying a speaker, I don’t want to hear about the inner workings and how speakers produce noise. Teach me about how I can get my sound to sound the best, and what I need to look for when buying a speaker. Like most strategies, consistency is key. Develop a schedule on when you will be producing content, and to get the message out, align postings with social media so you are able to attract people to your newly produced content. Now go and produce content! You have the base definition of what content marketing is and how it can benefit your business. As long as you produce useful, purposeful, and relevant content, you will be on the right path. This article only focused on website content marketing, but this concept can link across all platforms of your digital presence. It’s up to you to drive your strategy forward. When developing your strategy, always remember the customer. Ask yourself if you were in their shoes, would you view/read the content you’re producing? Would you find it useful and relevant to your researching of a product or service? Be the Industry leader and show your customer base that you will be the central hub of any information they will need when it comes to learning about your product, service, or lifestyle. Dominique Lee In 2018, the United States Census Bureau estimated that almost 6% of the American population is Asian American. The Hmong American population makes a small slice of the Asian American pie with an estimated population of less than 300,000. Luckily for me, I was born and raised in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. A city, ranked in tenth place with the largest Hmong population in the country and a state, with the third-largest Hmong population overall. I grew up with Hmong friends, ate Hmong food, and was able to participate in various cultural traditions. This didn’t however, directly translate to having mentors who looked like me, understood my experience in the world, and was able to give relevant advice. It wasn’t until college that I finally found a mentor who was able and willing to have the conversations I desperately needed to have. When this person left the institution, I no longer felt connected with the community and immediately attempted to transfer to a different college. It is not just college students like me who want to leave an organization due to disconnection. Research has found that minority workers who have great relationships with mentors are less likely to decrease work performance or leave an organization. This is because they feel invested in and make the additional challenges they face in the workplace, easier to navigate and to deal with. Not only do mentorship programs keep diverse talent, but they are beneficial overall to the health of an organization. This includes an exceptional workforce, decreased turnover, change management, and productivity. With today’s new digital media, companies and organizations are able to creatively bring mentors and mentees together in a way that they were never able to in the past. Previously limited to the same geographical area, mentors and mentees had to meet in person. This limited who could be a mentor and who could be a mentee. Now with new digital tools, electronic mentoring is the future. Electronic mentoring, or e-mentoring expands access to those who want to mentor and who want to be a mentee. Before we blast too far into the future, let’s talk about the telephone. It’s been around since 1849 and has evolved today to be wireless. Using a telephone or wireless cellphone is a great way to expand mentorship opportunities for those in your organization. As I mentioned earlier, I was fortunate to grow up in a community with others who understood my experiences in the world as a Hmong American woman. That didn’t however, directly translate to having mentors in life who could guide me in the right direction. Organizations can ensure that their employees don’t go through the same experiences I did by and connecting mentors and mentees from different geographical areas. The telephone or wireless cell phone is a great tool for mentors and mentees to connect through. Questions can be asked and advice can be given verbally over the phone. All that is needed is cell service and a phone per person. Traditional calling is only verbal but now there options for people to see simultaneously see and hear the other person through video. These video chat options are available on just about any device. As long as the device includes a camera and a microphone, you should be all set! A few options are Google Hangouts and Skype. Google Hangouts is accessible to every person who has a Gmail email account. To access Google Hangouts all you have to do is go to https://hangouts.google.com/, click on the video call option, and enter the email of the person you would like to chat with. An invitation to join the call will be sent to their email account. The process to use Skype is similar. To do so, you will need to first download the Skype app from an app store. Next, create an account with your email address. Finally, you can start to video chat with people. If you connect your Skype account to your phone and allow access to your contacts, those contacts will appear in the Skype app. You can search for a person and give them a call. If there is someone that is not in your contacts or don’t have Skype downloaded, you can send them an invitation via email or share with them the link to your Skype account. I would like to note that both Google Hangouts and Skype both have online phone call options and chatting options if a mentor and mentee prefer not to meet over video. Just emailing each other back and forth, of course, is another option. Lastly, let’s touch on using social media for electronic mentoring. Mentors and mentees can “friend” each other on social media websites and converse via these mediums. For example, Facebook also has audio, video, and digital chatting options. Even Snapchat has an option that allows users to call or video chat with one another. In conclusion, there is endless number of options to connect people with each other digital media tools. Ultimately allow mentors and mentees to connect despite geographical differences. Tim HoutsIn my previous blog post, I had helped you simplify your website, but now how do you know it works. Every business has some sort of website for various reason from, online shopping, getting their information out there, or to just report issues with a product. If you would like to see how successful your website is or is not, I would encourage you to use an online analytics tool. More specifically I am going to help you identify why you should be using Google Analytics. There are other websites and companies that can do this such as SE Ranking, Piwik, and Kissmetrics, however I wanted to use Google analytics due to it is a commonly known website. What are analytics? Why should I care? First you should know, most businesses are doing this, and if you are not than they have a competitive advantage against you. Analytics help you identify how many visitors you get on your website, as well as tracks how long people have stayed on your webpage analytics also track bounce rate, in which if visitors are clicking on your page and how long until they click out of your website. By narrowing how long your visitor is on your webpage can identify if there are issues with your webpage and ideally where they were when they clicked out of your website. More specifically, Google Analytics will also help you see if your marketing efforts work, identify keywords for your website, and help you identify who is clicking on to your website. If your target market is males between 25 and 35, but elderly women are the main visitor your webpage, your marketing efforts are clearly missing the mark. Before You Start Before you start you should know this is a tool to use long term, you may get some immediate answers. However, this is not a cure for a failing business, just another tool to help you run website. How Do You Start Starting is easy, simply google “Google Analytics” or click on the hyper link. When you sign up you will need to identify what type of tracking you would like, for what type of device, and what type of account. The Hard Part Now that you have created your account, you will need to identify how to use the tool. You will need to set up what analytics you will be identifying, and other specifics. This will be the last part before you get your answers Be Careful There are several mistakes as pointed in a blog post by Janet Driscoll Miller, but one that is important to point out here is capitalization matters. There is a difference when you are tracking “Forbes” and when you are tracking “forbes”. What to Look at First Once you have set up your analytics and added the key to your code, I would tell you to wait anywhere from two hours to a full day. Google Analytics does give you real time information, however you have just started let it collect information first. When you are ready the first thing you should look at is Acquisition and Overview. This part allows you to identify who you have received your traffic. Was your website or product searched, and that led them to your page. Or was it an advertisement that you had put on a social media account. This identifies what medium is being used most to get to your website. It will show what marketing is working for you website. Identifying Behaviors The next thing you need to look at is the behavior tab, this will allow you to see where guest is landing on your website. If they were looking for a specific product and they clicked on a hyperlink did they land on your home page, or directly to the page where they can buy the product. If that is the case, you may want to specialize that page to advertise other parts of your website. Amazon does this with customers also bought… underneath the product you are looking at, along with a packaged price. Small add-on like this speak loudly to a visitor purchasing behavior. It is here where you will identify Bounce Rates and times on a page. If visitors are spending a greater amount of time on one-page verse another, there may be an issue on that page. Keep track of your purchase page because if that is where visitors are spending a chunk of time, but do not finish the purchase. You may have an issue on this page and require support, for now you could be losing sales due to website failure. Where Are We We live in the digital age with the world a few clicks away. With more ways to access an online store and do quick purchases. It is important to identify what is driving people to your website. You need to know if your website is a useful tool, or a broken cog in machine. Talia GutierrezWell, I’m back! Don’t know if you wanted to see me again, but I have arrived none the less, as I have to meet a timely post quota.
Which actually has to do with what I will be blabbing about today! Maintaining networks through social media platforms is a constant battle that, when you get the hang of it, becomes as natural as posing for a selfie with the oh so popular duck face pout. Now, I have been rambling for a while, and you’re probably thinking, “The heck she talkin’ about?” Well, here is your answer: trends. Keeping up with trends is a key factor in maintaining any kind of online presence, whether you are setting them or following them.
Why Should I Follow Trends? How does keeping up with trends help you with maintaining relationships? If you are asking this, then you probably haven’t been on one of those bad dates. You know, the dates where the one person comes across with the “world revolves around me, I have blessed you with my presence” persona. They talk only about themselves and only want to hear about themselves. This is what it comes across as when you don’t keep up with trends. Why, you ask? Well, if you don’t know what everyone else is talking about on the network, then how are you going to talk to them? By keeping up with trends, you can not only maintain your network relations, but you can also develop a stronger relationship with viewers and consumers. By knowing what they are talking about, how they feel about it, and what they want, you can keep up with their needs and build a proper persona, or “profile”, that will keep them from cutting off their contact with you. But Why Do I Need Profile? By keeping up with trends, it gives a chance to make even more connections. For example, you follow this one blogger for a while, and they take notice of you. One of the first things they will do is check out your online presence, your profile, so to speak. It’s like the whole “swipe left, swipe right” dating app (never did it myself). If you don’t capture a person’s eye, show them how having a relationship with you will benefit them, then you are going to remain very intimate with the single status. But…”What if I want to contact them first?” Good question. You can message them, of course. However, what if they don’t respond? Do you just spam them with messages? No, don’t be a stalker. Do you want to get arrested? So, how do you capture their attention if you can’t just talk to them? Through your profile! Your profile is basically the face, the selling point, that can tell a person whether it will be worth it to start and continue maintaining a relationship with you. If you just have a basic profile –name, age, gender– then you will only come across as one thing, BORING!!!! No one wants a boring friend. Same for business and networking relations. If you have nothing to contribute, then you won’t be getting any sleepover invites. Why Do I Need to Maintain a Presence on the Net? Well, do you want them to think you are ghosting them? It’s like dating, again. If you don’t keep a consistent presence with your network through social media, then it would come across as you not really caring what others think about you and that you don’t care about them as well. You not only aren’t keeping “contact” with them, but you also show no interest in what they are doing. If you don’t seem to care what they are doing, then your network “fam” won’t really see any benefit to maintaining their relationship with you. Long story short: You need to maintain your presence in order to build a “profile” on the net. And the best way to do this is through using Social Media Platforms. As I mentioned before, you can keep track of what is “in” for people around the world. By keeping track of these interests, you can customize your presence to appeal to others and stay up to date on what is happening in the world. This is called Trend Analysis, and is often used by businesses and marketers to attract more consumers, for us, contacts! So, What Should I Do? Like videos, share posts, retweet, do all of those things people do on social media these days. By showing you have interests, people will take an interest in you. They will want to know what you are doing. If you are also coming up with new things or have an IN with your connections. If you want a more technical way, then follow the experts. This is the best way to start off, following experts and bloggers who focus or specialize in fields that interest you keeps you up to date. You are then able to form deeper and more contacts with others in that field. However, the very first thing you need to do is make an actual Social Media profile. You can’t exactly have a presence if you aren’t able to even like or comment on something. And in order to do that, you need to figure out which platform you should do it from. Which is what we will start to go over in the next blog post, so come back if you want to know what platform suits you best from Facebook, Twitter, and the criteria to select among many other platforms. John Bentler he content that you put onto social media will speak volumes about your company. It is the voice that people give to your company. It is what can turn those simply browsing your page into the most loyal of fans. So, what do you want it to say about you? Does it scream tacky and stiff like a baby boomer trying to create a meme? Or is it smooth and naturally flowing as if it plucked directly from a customer’s thoughts? These are all points to remember when creating engaging social media content for your business. It needs to be concise, focused, and understanding of the target audience. The primary focus of this blog is to understand what makes people more likely to share content, which in turn will help you curate the best content that fans won’t be able to get enough of! So before we learn why content is king, lets understand what makes people tick online. Motivations to Share Content
Emotions are often the driving force behind the sharing of content, whether positive or negative, and being fearful, elated, angry, or amused are the biggest drivers of content sharing. Now let’s check out a handful of ways to create engaging social media content that adhere to those points above. 1. Use of a great story As mentioned above, sharing content, and hopefully buying said content further down the road, are based on emotional drivers that appeal to us on a deeper level. Like any good book that we read, we’re often able to picture what is written on the page in our heads as we’re reading it, and your social media content shouldn’t be any different.
2. Build Relationships with Customers Social media is perched in that perfect spot that allows us to talk directly with customers nearly instantly. Since it almost as if a company is speaking to you like a person would, it allows for relationships to be built up over time.
3. Identify with Something Bigger In Sprout Social’s Championing Change in the Age of Social Media study, it was reported that 66% of consumers wanted organizations to take stances on serious political and social issues. If it is already an issue of particular importance or relevance to a customer, then it won’t take much to motivate them into passing along said content.
Creating engaging social media content might not be something that is achieved on the first try and that’s ok! Listen to your customers comments and concerns and learn from them. This where those lasting relationships are built Don’t be afraid to be creative and outlandish. Remember, unique content usually garners the most views. Perhaps your company could benefit from the aid of a social media influencer to promote it. This is actually a future topic that I will cover so stay tuned for more on that! Andrea BarileThe times are changing in this modern age with drastic methods. This can be seen happening in many ways in not only American culture but all over the world. These advancements may include technology, especially including yet another (and somewhat odd looking) new version of the iPhone. Similar advancements can be seen on our websites and, especially with social media platforming sites.
Social media comes and goes, such as with My Space or Yik Yak. The end of Facebook may be approaching us faster than we realize, and this may not be a huge loss for individuals. Facebook recently has been accused of interfering with privacy, an issue still ongoing and leading to them being expected to pay BILLIONS of US dollars. When people begin to not feel safe while using a service, that is usually not a very good sign for the company. Along with the above statement, however, they have recently been accused of different cases of discrimination. These particular examples do not include discrimination from one user to another, as that would be the length of about seven different blog posts. Instead, the discrimination explained below are examples of Facebook discriminating against their own users. With a company as huge as Facebook, this can be considered as simply oversight, however it is important to analyze these situations and draw conclusions ourselves. Language According to a Facebook user, Facebook has played a part in Language discrimination. The original post comments on how their name does not fit the Facebook standards for names they have. They used the Inuktitut language writing style for their name. Facebook does not support this particular language, however you are allowed to change your name into this particular writing system. While you can change your name into the writing style, the individual was required to use both first and middle names in the first name slot to make it work. This is due to the fact that their first name only uses two separate characters and is considered too short to be a first name. The individual posting about this incident believes it to be a form of language discrimination that is built into the Facebook coding. According to the Facebook guidelines on names, your name may not fit the guidelines if you use two different languages within the name itself, use titles in the name (such as Doctor) or use symbols in the name. You can, however, use and add language-specific names to the name on your profile that will show up for someone using a Facebook supported in a differing language. Advertisements The advertisements on Facebook are often targeted towards people due to their location and profile information. This is so they know where you are and what stores or other places you may be able to visit, and also learning what some of your interests are. In theory, this way of creating ads marketed towards a specific clientele sounds good and effective. That is, as long as we are all able to view the same type of marketing. This is sadly not always the case. In fact, it has been shown that certain types of advertisements are blocked from certain types of people. This would make sense in a way, such as restaurants in California not showing ads for users living in Alabama. However, this expands to marketers not showing advertisements to individuals of a certain age, gender, or race. Most of the marketers accused of this are for housing and employment. Due to this type of discrimination, Facebook is being sued by the Department of Housing and Urban Development. In this article, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, or EEOC has shown that there were seven confirmed employers who has taken advantage of the advertisement algorithm and chose specific groups of people to not advertise to. The federal government has also commented stating that they believe these practices to be illegal. That form of discrimination is large and affects a huge amount of people that may be searching for something that could change their life. Ads may not be the most conventional method of finding employment or housing, however our current social media has completely changed the way of which we live our lives. We no longer truly function as a society as we traditionally had. The internet, and websites that reside within it, controls a vast part of our livelihoods. That may not change anytime soon. No outside force has really ever seemed to have more control over what happens in our daily lives than the internet and social media. Our private and public lives have become interconnected. Housing and job advertisements may lead to amazing opportunities for many individuals. To take away the right to see these advertisements and not be able to apply for those opportunities based on something such as gender or race is not a new concept. It has, however, never been as far reaching as Facebook and the companies supplying the advertisements has made it. This needs to change. Abigail BaumgartnerHave you ever found yourself mindlessly scrolling through social media? Now ask yourself, have you ever seen the same page’s posts multiple times throughout that same social media scroll? I know I have been through this exact same scenario multiple times on different media platforms. Not only is it annoying for internet users, it can make the companies page seem annoying as well.
In order to make your company’s social media pages stand above the rest, there are a few strategic measures you must take. A few important things to take into consideration regarding strategic social media posting are the quality of the posts over the quantity of the post and the time of posting. With these tactics, your company is sure to get the most out of today’s main source of information, social media. 1. Quality Over Quantity Yes, this saying is everywhere. With that being said it makes us question whether or not this statement can actually be true. Believe it or not, quality content is much more important than a large quantity of content. Nobody wants to see something in their feed that is repetitive and extraneous. When a company posts a picture on Instagram, for example, the post must be relevant to not only Instagram’s norm posting platform. It must also be a post that allows the viewer to experience something with the company that excites, educates, and engages them. If the post does not do one of those things, it loses its relevancy and becomes just another picture that the Instagram user mindlessly scrolls past. What makes this even worse is when the company posts not one, but six or seven posts like this. But, if the post excites, educates, engages, it becomes a post of quality and can give your page more traction and make your page look more professional. Social media must be engaging. The more traffic you get on your various pages, the more people that are seeing your content and potentially interacting with it. When someone follows or likes your company’s profile on any social media, it generally means that they already have some interest in your page or trust the content you post because they are reliable and relevant to them. The more your organization posts the more likely you are building trust and reliability with your follower base. 2. Time of Posting This tactic can help your company build a strong social media presence, which is pretty much every marketers dream come true. Even before your posts can receive likes, shares, retweets etc. your page needs to have a strong follower base. Then, you can create and post compelling content that viewers want to see. The trick is finding the right time to share it. The time a company will post seems rather tedious and unimportant. In reality, time of posting can be instrumental for the maximum number of viewers that your post has the potential to obtain. However, different social media platforms each have various times at which posting is the best. If you do not have the resources or time to test and analyze the most viewer generated posting methods, we can use Sprout Social, which breaks it down by platform on the most beneficial times to post. On Facebook, the best time to post is between twelve and three pm on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. For Instagram, the best time is Wednesday at twelve pm. Twitter is the best around eight am to four pm, Monday through Friday. The reason behind these posting methods is relatively simple. People check social media when they wake up in the morning and I think it’s safe to say most people check it as a source of news. In addition to the morning check, people will be looking at their social media feeds multiple times a day. People will be checking their phones on their lunch breaks, which explains the noon posting times, and also when they are running out of mental energy towards the end of the work day. Obviously, every company has a different follower base, so no two profiles are the same. In order to gain traction to your profile it is best to know when and how your followers engage with your posts, so you can capture their attention. As long as your company is consistently posting quality content and being strategic with the times they are posting, you will start to notice an increase in not only a strong follower base, but a lot more engagement with a potentially new follower base as well. Of course, there is always room for improvement, and analyzing your pages for areas that need improvement is a great way to make updates. Just because your company is doing something with its social media platforms that works, it does not mean that the social media presence cannot be improved. Jonah CarlsonWith the higher use of social media in today’s world, companies have had to adapt with how they go about recruiting potential employees. Companies are much more present on social media sites in today’s day and age, so potential job candidates need to keep that fact in mind as they not only apply for jobs, but also when they are using their social media sites day to day. There are several different types of websites that companies use in order to get their name out there. These range from pages like indeed, Linkedin, Facebook, along with other social media websites. These sites are ones that prospective employees need to keep in mind in order to market themselves to their fullest potential.
Before deciding which media to use in your job hunt, the first thing that a applicant should do is to clean up their social media pages. Companies will conduct background checks into applicants through social media so that they can have a better idea of who they are going to be hiring. It is the applicants job to make sure that there is nothing on their page that will prevent them from finding the job that they want. LinkedIn seems to be one of the most common forms of social sites used by both employers, and applicants. LinkedIn is a website where people can create their profiles and have their resumes on file so that they can network with companies and apply to jobs easier, as well as employers having an easier path to hiring their employees. The Balance Careers webpage provides some great tips on how to maximize your use of LinkedIn. https://www.thebalancecareers.com/how-to-use-linkedin-2062597 Indeed is another website that can be very useful when applying for jobs. When using Indeed, users create a profile where they can upload files like their resume, and they customize their applying experience. Users can search for jobs in specific fields, from specific employers, as well as certain areas of the country. Job-hunt.org gives some pros and cons on using the Indeed page for job hunting https://www.job-hunt.org/onlinejobsearchguide/article_guide_to_indeed.shtml All in all, Indeed is a very good site to use for people who are looking for more immediate jobs. You can find all types of job listings on Indeed ranging from part, to full time positions. Next on the list comes the different social media sites like Facebook, or Twitter that people can use in order to market themselves. More often than not, people or not going to apply for jobs on Facebook, however, being able to use your social media in a professional manner can really help to boost a person’s chances of being hired by a company. Things to watch for on your page include several things. First, you need to make sure that you have a social media presence in the first place. Not having any social media could look suspicious to a potential employer. It could show that you are disconnected from society, and would not be a good employee. One should also be making sure that their media presence is spread out. You should not just have a Facebook account. Branch out into the other accounts like Twitter, and LinkedIn for example. Another area to pay attention to are any types of inappropriate content. This could range from a phot, or any vulgar posts. Posts like that are going to be a big hint to an employer on the type of person you are. On that note, the types of friends you have on your social media site come into play. If you have a friend tag you in a post that is inappropriate, it will negatively impact you, even if you were not the one to post it. Next, you need to be making sure that you have a good social media presence in general. Being connected with employers or others of the industry is a great start. The more you associate with professionals in the field, the better you will look. Making sure that you are positively active on your social media pages will help to give employers a better look at your professional self. All in all, social media and new media in general are becoming more and more important with respects to the professional setting. It is harder to find companies that do not utilize new media in some shape or form to market their business. With this, it is becoming more important that people entering the career field keep this fact in mind. Technology and social media is not going to go away, so it is the applicants duty to make sure that they are utilizing all of the tools that are available to them in order to find the job that they are looking for. The tools are out there, now go and use them. Hannah KotcheRumors are spread rapidly no matter where we are located. Even if someone says the rumors are not true, they could still be spread like wildfire until someone or something is done about it.
The reason I say this is because I know I am not the only one who has heard about Colleges and Universities trying to show diversity on campuses and trying to meet their “goal” or what we all think, the quota. I know this is not a common topic, but we all know that race is always going to be a problem that no one can solve and the way that colleges solve is saying that schools should be more diverse. President Barack Obama, who has shown support focusing on a system that regards class other than race, stated in an interview, “If we have done what needs to be done to ensure that kids who are qualified to go to college can afford it, then affirmative action becomes a diminishing tool for us to achieve racial equality in this society," he said [source: Robinson]. After Obama stated this and also having to African American kids going off to college soon, it showed that he wanted it to be fair for both his daughters and everyone else as well. On top of this, a problem I see with dressing the race problem is that no one addresses the class, so is the reason someone got into college is because they had money? Or they need more of one race than another? Rethink Let's take a step back. When was the last time you were on a campus? We all see the giant murals around the campus, so tell me what you think you would see one that giant picture. I know what I would see: an African American, a Caucasian, an Asian American, and a person who is disabled. This is what society has trained us to see as a diverse campus looks and feels like, so everyone feels welcomed in this community. My first time on my campus I thought I was one of the minorities and I am Caucasian female who is a high GPA student and I was not sure if I was accepted into the college to break up different races or get a better graduation rates, but learning and being there for a few years made me realize that I was wanted because I was a good student who gets her work done. I have learned through meeting people on my campus that we are not alike but yet we are the same. Maybe we did not have the GPA or the same feelings about school, but we all ended up in the same place for a reason. What’s More Important? In our society which do you think is more important to everyone, class or race? To me, people pull both the class and race card and may not even know they are doing it. I know it's something I have done subconsciously and now looking back at it, I know it's something that should never have come up. For example, when driving I do not think about if I'm driving a little crazy or if I am speeding and if you look at anyone else of a different race, they are more concerned when they pass a police officer, when I do not think twice. This is what's important. It's things like these that makes it hard for people to ignore what they are taking advantage of every second of their lives. Not Understood Not understanding why our brains do this without hesitation may be the reason why we do not think that race is a problem when people are trying to apply for colleges. If I was in that position, I feel you would need people who will graduate and make a name for your school instead of defaming the name they have been trying to spread around. They want people to feel like they will fit in, and hopefully, they do when they come to the campus. Lakeland University With my school, Lakeland University, we have a small community that barely reaches only about 2,060, and if you dig deeper only 100 are Asian and 168 are black. Adding to that an acceptance rate of 55% which is a small amount compared to other colleges. So, who do you think they accept more in this college and is race a problem that we should think about? Do you think there is a quota they have to meet? In my next blog post I will dig deeper into different colleges around the United States and seeing you think there may be quota that they are trying to fill or not. |
